This strange and amazing pen and ink drawing is from the studio of Thomas Hill. It measures 18" x 24" on fine art archival paper.
The creature's body is comprised of a multitude of elements, including what looks like mechanical parts, organic textures that resemble body tissues or plants, and possibly bones or skeletal fragments. Its eyes are mismatched, one looking like a normal eye while another takes on a more mechanical, possibly clockwork appearance.
Surrounding the creature are various objects and symbols floating in what seems to be a chaotic, void-like space. There are clocks, most notably one with a extended mechanical arm, symbolizing maybe the passing or distortion of time. Fragments float or fall across the scene. Human hands stretch out too, possibly signifying a reach for help or connection. Everyday items, such as a ladder, a mushroom, and building structures or towers, populate the lower part of the image.
Objects are reinforcing the melding of organic and artificial in this universe. Smaller, celestial or cellular objects dot the backdrop, further contributing to the piece's dreamlike, otherworldly quality.
The overall tone of the artwork is one of chaos, with elements of danger, the passage of time, and a breakdown between the natural and artificial worlds. The execution is highly detailed, showcasing the artist's skill in fine line work and composition.
